Tom Lewis' resilience news pointed out how the world's financial system factors are problematic now, with the junk bond market crashing, the inventory of unsold goods piling up, while manufacturing and corporate profits are declining. Black Friday sales were a bust.
Tom Kennedy reported $803.00 in the bank account.
The SPH lending library has been moved to the Capon Bridge Library, who were happy to receive the books donated by Beth Reese and others. (Note: an article about this donation and SPH appeared in the Hampshire Review). Anyone who still has books out should return them to Beth.
Election of Officers was held. Tom Lewis made the motion that the current officers be re-elected; the motion was seconded, and approved. The following officers will remain for 2016:
Dale Brady - Convener
Dorothy Kengla - Secretary
Tom Kennedy - Treasurer
Tim Reese resigned as co-convener, and that office was not filled.
Beth Reese recommended the book "Blessing the Hands That Feed Us" by Vickie Robin, about relational eating, and eating locally, a topic which concerns all of us.
Gayle Allen recommended Barbara Kinsolver's book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" as another good read on a similar topic.
If anyone has garden photos they would like added to the SPH website, send them to Tom Lewis.
Dale's presentation for the evening centered on a slide show giving information and links to a variety of Transition sites. A list was handed out with these links.
Discussion followed where many present gave ideas of where they would like to see our organization go in the future. Smaller, location-centered groups as subsets of the larger SPH community held the interest of many. Members are spread over a large area, making it hard to form local communities. But the larger group is needed to plan events, bring ideas for activities, etc. More field trips, informational presentations and pot-lucks were all mentioned. There is also a large interest in Permaculture, the basis for the Transition movement, and for getting people of all ages involved.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at the Health Department Meeting Room in Augusta. Doors open at 6:00 for potluck dinner and social. The meeting starts at 7:00 pm.
